Legumes - Taco Soup

Today we made Taco Soup after discussing and learning about Legumes last week.

We learned that legumes provide us with protein, vitamin B, and fiber and are a great way to fill up, nutritionally.

Quick Breads Galore!

For the past few weeks, we have been discussing and learning about different pieces of equipment and different types of cooking methods.  We've been focusing specifically on Quick Breads for the past week or so and have made numerous recipes.  So far, we've made: Blueberry Muffins, Pancakes, and two Biscuit recipes (Pizza Pockets & Biscuit Bombs).  Here are a few pictures from a recent lab:

The class was put into 4 teams and they had to come up with a unique spin on the traditional G.C. Sandwich.  They could choose any type of cheese and "bread" and then an additional 5 ingredients to make the sandwich their own.

Here's some pics:

Nutrients Navigation

We have been learning about nutrients, functions, and sources in Foods I and today we went on a journey through our minds.  We made Mind Maps! At the end of the activity, students came together as a whole class and created one big Mind Map on the whiteboard.  It's a beautiful thing:

Taste-of-Summer 2014

Last week, Foods I got to sit back and enjoy a nice picnic-like feast with friends and classmates.  They used the buffet style of meal service.

Welcome Back to School!!

Well, Miss Botts' Foods I students have been working diligently through the Safety and Sanitation Unit in order to properly and safely prepare foods in class and at home.  The students were able to put their knowledge to the test with their first cooking lab last Friday.

Thanks to Mrs. Jett-McVea, we borrowed a very delicious recipe for Pizza Pockets.  YUM!! They were so quick and easy and perfect for a first lab and getting acquainted in the kitchens.
